Get It Done Director Mimi Dearing recently shared her new metal engraved work at the Soho Connections exhibition by Bow Arts at 125 Shaftesbury Avenue.

Artist statement:

In a period of political and environmental instability, where people are forced to leave their homes and communities... How will we remember and archive the places that we love? In the future, how will we remember the plants, the mountains, the birds?

Displaying this at Bow Arts Soho Studios, the metal blended in so well to the office. I thought about how we can use visual languages of the future to archive and document the spaces that mean something to us. Tracing the fleeting and fading shadows of nature captured a moment in time, anchoring memories into the land.

This piece of work is informed by my frequent work with refugees and asylum seekers on borders in Calais, Greece and Estonia, understanding experiences of forced migration. My engraving concept was developed during a residency in Estonia with NART, working on the Russian-Estonian border to produce a piece of public art.
