Juego Infinito (Infinite Game)
Placemaking Europe, Spain.
July 2026.
Juego Infinito (Infinite Game) is a large-scale floor mural and interactive game in Valencia, Spain.
Working with local children in the area of Paiporta, the idea was to create a floor mural that activated the site and encouraged different ways of moving through public space. Climate work isn't only about activities that explicitly address the environment. It's about building deeper embodied and sensory connections to the places we inhabit.
We worked in local schools to design un juego infinito - an infinite game - where children could make up their own rules. A sign by the mural shares instructions:
In the infinite game, there's no one way to play. Invent a game using the shapes on the ground. Create your own dice and counters, and invent a challenge for yourself or with others. Today's game won't be the same tomorrow!
MOVE: Jump, balance, hop, run, turn, walk on tip-toes or run across the whole mural. Can you follow the lines? Float down the river? Jump from stone to stone?
IMAGINE: The coloured shapes could be rivers, islands, lava, houses, obstacles, refuges... or something different. What do you see?
DRAW: Use chalks to create new paths, bridges, creatures, maps or new rules.
PLAY TOGETHER: Share ideas, create teams and invent games with other people.
CHANGE THE RULES: There is no correct way to play! Explain your game to another person and discover what changes.
This was created as part of the Climate Shelter Residency project. The mural was designed by Mimi Dearing with painting support from Paiporta Municipality construction trainees.
